Diatomaceous Earth
Happy Spring/Summer! As you might have guessed I try to do as many things naturally as I can. It's that time of year when all the critters are out and about. I've been going through my storage in my Renegade bus. This is where I have Joe and my, and our son's, stuff. Unfortunately the mice got into some of it. Thankfully they didn't damage anything super important, so far. This might sound like a simple task, but it's so difficult for me. Obviously moving off grid I had to downsize, but these are all that is left of nearly 21 years, besides our son, of course. While I wade through the boxes I am reminded that I have to be on top of keeping the pests out. While I was drinking I was too busy with drinking to pay attention. Unfortunately I had tunnel vision. Fortunately the fog is lifting and I see all the things that I need to do. I've begun planting a variety of trees and I have a little garden. I also have mice/rats, rabbits, lizards, birds, and bugs that want to nibble on everything. I've found some good animal repellents that are safe for my pets, especially since I have rattlesnakes also. One of my favorite products is diatomaceous earth. I can sprinkle it on the ground for the things that crawl. I put it in my dogs' food to avoid parasites and it helps keep the ants out of their bowls. I've never taken it but I've heard that it's good for humans too. I also put apple cider vinegar in their water. It seems to keep bugs off of them, mostly. Works well for the sand fleas. You can also put it directly on their skin. I'd recommend diluting it. Cinnamon and mint are great repellers for creepy crawlies and mice. If you are using things that are toxic and spraying it near your house and on the fruits and veggies that you later plan to eat, proceed with caution. These are just a few things that I do regularly, and I'm always adjusting. You can find so much more on the Internet, of course. The presert is currently green and cacti is blooming. Hoping for rain, but not too much. Wishing everyone flowers, Ceeeej
